Black Skimmers in Flight

Black Skimmers in Flight

The Black Skimmer, Rynchops niger, is found along the East coast of North America from Massachusetts to Southern Mexico and also across most of South America East of the Andes. Skimmers fly along just above water surface and drag the lower part of bill through the water. When they encounter fish, they tuck their head and grab the fish while flying past. This group is flying over Brigantine Island NJ.
